Russian rugby player Vasily Artemyev has discussed his decision to leave English club Northampton Saints and move to Siberian Krasny Yar in a recent interview. Speaking as part of the “PARI and Poori” show, Artemyev explained that while he had competed for a place in the squad for several seasons, it had become increasingly difficult with the signing of Welsh player George North. Ultimately, the limited opportunities and his desire for stability led him to accept an offer to return to Russia. He has since spent five or six successful seasons with Krasny Yar.

Russian rugby star Vasily Artemyev has been on the highest profile interview of his life. Artemyev was the first of the ambassadors of the betting company PARI to board a sports plane and answer the pilot’s questions during “dead loops” and “barrels” as part of the “PARI and Poori” show.

Artemiev was asked why in 2013 he left the English Northampton Saints and moved to Siberian Krasny Yar.

– In England, in general, one of the strongest competitions in world rugby. There are quite a few players like me, to be honest. There are many fast technical players. And in rugby, in addition to speed, maneuverability and technique, size is valued in several positions. There are fewer such players, and they are rated higher.

For three seasons I managed to fight for a place in the squad, but then it became more difficult. One of the best players in this role in the world, George North from Wales, was signed to my position. I realized that in a team of players like mine, five or six, we fight for one position in the line, because the second one is already occupied by George. There were few opportunities, and I was at the peak, I was about 29 years old – I wanted to play a lot. Yes, and my wife and I are expecting a baby, we want stability.

And when the offer came to return to Russia, to conquer Siberia, I accepted it, weighing all the pros and cons. And now he has spent five or six very good seasons for Krasny Yar,” said Artemiev.
